Convention Recap

It was our honor to share the APA 2026 experience with outstanding presenters, attendees, and the SCCAP community. Gathering with colleagues to exchange expertise, clinical insights, and enthusiasm for the field of clinical child and adolescent psychology was truly energizing. Our sessions were well attended and fostered thoughtful discussion, meaningful connections, and wonderful opportunities for professional development.

This year’s APA program showcased advances in child and adolescent mental health across clinical practice, training, and advocacy. Presentations highlighted evidence-based assessment and intervention, innovative approaches to service delivery, and strategies for supporting youth and families across a variety of settings. A recurring theme was the integration of research, lived experience, and advocacy to improve services while strengthening the preparation of the next generation of psychologists.

The program also emphasized workforce development, diversity, psychological safety in training, and efforts to expand equitable access to care and address systemic barriers to mental health services. Collectively, these sessions reflected a commitment to bridging science and practice in ways that promote the well-being of children, adolescents, families, and the professionals who serve them.

We are proud of our SCCAP members for showcasing their important work at APA and for contributing to the continued growth and impact of our field.

At the SCCAP Membership Meeting, our members were recognized for their contributions and service to the field of clinical child and adolescent psychology. Among those honored was SCCAP’s Director of Operations, Lynn Canty, whose years of commitment and leadership has helped shape Division 53 and support its mission. As Lynn begins her retirement, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for her service and wish her the best in this next chapter.

We are hopeful the presentations at APA 2026 inspired you to stay engaged with SCCAP until next year’s convention! If you were not able to attend the Main Stage and Feature Stage programming, you can still access presentations at https://convention.apa.org/ if you registered for APA.

2027 will be an exciting year for SCCAP!

APA 2027 Convention in San Francisco.

APA 2027 will be held in San Francisco from August 12-14. We are thrilled to add Co-Chair, Joshua Golt, Ph.D., to the convention programming team! Dr. Golt is a Fellow at Children’s National Hospital, and he specializes in supporting children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. We appreciate the tremendous contributions his unique perspective will bring to the team!

Posters, Symposia, Critical Conversations, and Skill-Building Sessions: Expected Due Date January 2027

The SCCAP programming at APA provides you with the opportunity to dive into clinical child and adolescent psychology within the larger APA program. We look forward to receiving submissions for posters, symposia, critical conversations, and skill-building sessions. As always, we encourage individuals from marginalized and underrepresented groups to apply and share their unique perspectives. We also encourage proposals that represent the unique needs of underserved and/or underrepresented populations. Lastly, we value our members across settings, professional status, and career stages (i.e., trainees, early career professionals, practicing psychologists, researchers, and academics). We encourage all of our members to contribute and participate in the proposal submission process! Be on the lookout for the 2027 Call for Proposals portal on the APA website and for more information regarding the APA convention on our listserv in late October/early November.
