R. Bob Smith, III Excellence in Psychological Assessment Award: Cecil R. Reynolds, PhD, ABN, ABPdN

We are proud to announce that Dr. Cecil R. Reynolds has been selected as the recipient of the R. Bob Smith, III Excellence in Psychological Assessment Award, presented by the Society for Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (SCCAP).

Over a distinguished career spanning nearly five decades, Dr. Reynolds has made transformative contributions to the science and practice of psychological assessment. His work is marked by an unwavering commitment to empirical rigor, ethical practice, and cultural fairness, helping to shape contemporary standards for evidence-based evaluation.

Dr. Reynolds has authored or co-authored more than 50 widely used psychological assessment instruments that are integral to clinical, educational, and research settings worldwide. His contributions include the Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC), the Reynolds Intellectual Assessment Scales (RIAS-2 and RIST-2), the Test of Memory and Learning (TOMAL-2), and the Revised Children’s Manifest Anxiety Scale (RCMAS-2). A defining feature of his work is his emphasis on multi-method, multi-informant assessment, encouraging clinicians to integrate information from multiple sources rather than rely on a single score. This approach has become a cornerstone of best-practice assessment.

Beyond test development, Dr. Reynolds’ extensive scholarship includes more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and over 50 books, significantly advancing understanding of test validity, reliability, and fairness across diverse populations. His work on test bias and cultural equity has been especially influential in ensuring that psychological assessments are applied in ways that are both scientifically sound and ethically responsible.

Today, his assessment tools are used to evaluate millions of children each year across the globe, supporting clinical diagnosis, educational planning, and intervention efforts. Please join us in celebrating Dr. Reynolds at the SCCAP Annual Conference and recognizing his extraordinary impact on the field.
